THIS WEEK’S HOT TOPIC TO TAME IS: socks
WELCOME TO WEEK 9!
Welcome back! Are you still hanging in there? I want to give you an easy project so you can keep the momentum going. Or to get back on the wagon if you fell off. Hopefully it’s the former and not the latter.
This week we are going to organize the sock drawer.
Disclaimer: I love to read! So personally, this one is a bit tough for me. But we can do this one together, right?
Let’s go!
Mr. Wonderful said he needed new socks. I asked him if I could organize his sock drawer first. When decluttering and organizing another family member’s belongings, get their buy-in since it’s their stuff. Surprising them is not recommended.
THESE ARE THE BASIC STEPS for the PROJECT:
1) Remove contents
2) Eliminate and consolidate
3) Organize likes with likes
4) Return to space (organizing product optional)
Let’s break this down:
Remember to collect the sock from everywhere and it’s best to do this project after the laundry is done. I started with a clean slate by emptying the drawer out. I used the bed but you can use the kitchen/dining room table or a designated laundry folding table or any other large flat clean surface.
Matchy-matchy. Pair up all your socks. We discarded any with holes and ones he didn’t like to wear. I folded the ankle socks in half and folded the dress socks in thirds. Did you know there are many ways to fold socks? Yep! Google Konmarie sock folding or just sock folding.
I put all the ankle socks together and sorted by color and then I put all the dress socks together and sorted by color for those as well.
I put them back and used thin lauan boards as separators. You can purchase spring-loaded plastic ones from Amazon at the following affiliate link: here or you can get wood ones at the following Amazon affiliate link: here
Doesn’t this look so much better?! Mr. Wonderful was very happy with the results. And he did not need to go buy more socks. Win-win!
So there you have it. A easy project for the week.
How do you fold your socks? I like the file folding because they are easy to see all at once, easy to remove, and easy to put in.
